  • by

We all want to be able to travel whether that’s near or far, but it’s hard when you don’t have an unlimited amount of money and need to budget the money you do have. In order to provide those amazing travel experiences on a budget, while still making it fun and enjoyable, here are some tips to help save money while traveling.

Peak Season

What is peak season? Peak season is certain times of the year where locations are the most busy. Peak season can be different for all locations, so it’s good to do your research and look up the best time to go. If possible you want to avoid peak season because those are times it’ll be the most busy and expensive. For example, lots of people leave for holidays, which creates a peak season in most areas, so that’s something you will want to consider when planning your next vacation.

Food

While traveling food can get expensive fast, depending on the location of your vacation and the restaurants available. People assume because you’re not at home you can’t just make your own food, but that’s where you’re wrong. Depending on if you drive or fly you can pack stuff that can make meals or you can go to a local grocery store and buy stuff that you can prepare yourself. It’s good to plan out what days and what meals you’re going to eat out and days you’re going to prepare your own food so you avoid having to drop extra $$$ on eating out every night. You’ll also want to check your living accommodations and what amenities are available to you so that you can take full advantage of those, because it all adds up in the end.

Planning and Booking

One of the best things you can do is plan and book ahead. Planning ahead a couple months to maybe a year in advance for hotels, places to eat, activities, and flights allow you to look out for deals and low prices on everything.  It also gives you more time to find the great deals and gives you a rough visual of total cost so you can plan ahead saving wisely or what needs to be cut from your trip to fit within your budget.

Destination

Location always matters when traveling. There are certain places all across the world that are going to be more expensive for different reasons. How desirable and popular a location is, as well as frequently visited places like Disneyland are going to be more expensive. Other places can also be hard, they might be cheap to fly there, but all their food and commodities are transported in which racks up costs in that department, so your expenses on the vacation are higher. Another thing to consider is during the cold seasons like December, more tropical places will be more expensive because it’s frequently visited and people are trying to escape the cold.

Transportation

Yes, you can even save on transportation. Riding public transportation can help save money, but make sure it’s a place that’s not high in crime; we still want to stay safe when traveling. Another alternative is a rental vehicle, depending on how long you’ll be there and if it’s more cost effective than using an Uber everywhere you go. Ubering isn’t cheap, but if it’s to one short distance location then Ubering or public transportation would be a better route to go.
